What are the benefits of massage therapy?

Massage as a healing tool has been utilized for thousands of years across various cultures. The human touch conveys compassion and support, naturally helping to relieve pain and reduce stress. The benefits of massage are numerous and include:

When considering appropriate massage conditions, having a massage can relax, revive, and invigorate the body, mind, and spirit. It encourages balance, especially when utilized as a preventative, frequent therapy rather than merely a luxury. If you're preparing for your first massage session, understanding these benefits can help set realistic expectations and enhance your experience.

What should I expect from my first massage session?

Before your first massage session, you will be asked to complete a brief client intake form that gathers relevant medical information and outlines your goals for the session. This information is crucial in establishing appropriate massage conditions to tailor the experience to your specific needs. During the session, we will discuss and adjust the pressure and depth of the strokes to ensure your comfort level is met, maximizing the benefits of massage.

What do I wear during the massage?

You should undress to the level with which you are comfortable. While you may not need to fully undress, many people choose to do so for a full-body massage to enjoy the full benefits of massage. The therapist will leave the area while you undress, ensuring your privacy. You will be covered by a sheet and/or blanket at all times, only uncovering the area of the body being worked on, which aligns with first massage session expectations.

Is massage always appropriate?

You should not schedule a session if you have fever, cold or flu symptoms, or contagious skin conditions, as these are not appropriate massage conditions. Other health issues may require the therapist to adapt the treatment technique or avoid certain areas completely. In some situations, obtaining approval from your doctor may be necessary. While it's important to understand the benefits of massage, it is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment; it serves as a complementary technique when appropriate.
